Signs that may accompany depression or low mood
Experiences can include low mood that persists, reduced interest or enjoyment, changes in sleep or appetite, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, numbness, self-critical thoughts or reduced day-to-day functioning. Similar experiences can also be linked with anxiety, stress, grief or physical health concerns, so support is considered individually rather than assuming a diagnosis.
How we approach depression therapy
Our Registered and Clinical Psychologists use evidence-based approaches, which may include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, psychodynamic therapy and interpersonal work where appropriate. Sessions can focus on understanding contributing patterns, identifying practical supports and reviewing what is useful over time. The approach is discussed with you rather than applied as a fixed program.
Postnatal depression
Changes in mood, sleep, functioning or connection after the arrival of a baby can affect mothers and partners. Psychological support may be one part of care. Contact the practice to discuss whether NorthPsych is an appropriate service for your circumstances.
Adelaide CBD and Telehealth appointments
Appointments are available in Adelaide CBD and by secure Telehealth across South Australia. Telehealth suitability is considered for the person, presentation and appointment type.
Support for persistent low mood
Persistent low mood can affect motivation, relationships, work or study and everyday routines. Psychological support may help clarify what is contributing and identify practical steps suited to your circumstances. You do not need to have a formal diagnosis before making an appointment.
Burnout, stress and reduced functioning
Burnout can involve ongoing exhaustion, reduced concentration or motivation, feeling detached, or finding everyday demands increasingly difficult to manage. These experiences can develop in response to sustained work, caring or other pressures.
A psychologist can help you understand the factors contributing to what you are experiencing and develop practical support matched to your circumstances. Similar experiences can overlap with depression, anxiety or physical health concerns, so the focus of support is considered individually.
Appointments are available in Adelaide CBD and by secure Telehealth across South Australia.
